چکیده

Abstract. Cities are particularly affected by climate change impacts. Due to global warming, the frequency and intensity of summer heat events increases for many cities around globe. Urban climatological studies have shown significant positive trends in number hot days tropical nights. Heat stress is an important health as well economic risk. Thus, urban planning needs adapt change. This requires a sound scientific analysis different adaptation measures management options, which must be based on appropriate data, models scenarios assess their suitability efficacy. The goal this paper low cost weather station network consisting 33 NETATMO sensors ultrasonic anemometers measure air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed direction 16 ha study area Cologne with high temporal spatial resolution support microclimatological modelling. temperature humidity were calibrated against research grade reference sensor under laboratory conditions. In addition, meteorological (Campbell Sci.) was set up reference. placed identify local microclimatic effects due surface types, vegetation building structures. Using descriptive statistical analyses pairwise comparisons, differences conditions various sites found, can clearly attributed specific small scale microclimate factors. Significant identified comparing avenue narrow street backyard park area. proved provide data reliably suitable quality effects. choice lends itself citizen participation, needed facilitate adaptation. our further research, will used modelling ENVI-met investigating options mitigating

Assessment of the microclimatic and human comfort conditions in a complex urban environment: Modelling and measurements

Several complex thermal indices (e.g. Predicted Mean Vote and Physiological Equivalent Temperature) were developed in the last decades to describe and quantify the thermal environment of humans and the energy fluxes between body and environment. Compared to open spaces/landscapes the complex surface structure of urban areas creates an environment with special microclimatic characteristics, whic...

Modelling Human Exposure to Air Pollutants in an Urban Area

http://www.revistadechimie.ro 61 Road traffic is one of the main sources of atmospheric pollution in urban areas, where the contribution of traffic flows, congestions and high population density typically increases the exposure of the settled population to pollutants [1-3]. One of the most important family of traffic-related pollutants is represented by nitrogen oxides (NOx), whose main contrib...

DTN Support for News Dissemination in an Urban Area

We are studying the practicality of news dissemination over a Delay Tolerant Network (DTN) in an urban area. The target application is the distribution of the electronic version of a newspaper in a large city. Therefore, although strict time constraints do not apply, spreading the information should be achieved within a reasonable delay. We consider that mobile users subscribe to their content ...

Urban Sprawl Pattern and Its Implications for Urban Management (Case Study: Zaria Urban Area, Nigeria)

Urban sprawl, or the unplanned and uncontrolled spreading out of built-up areas in Zaria urban area causes problems of congestion, poor urban basic infrastructure delivery and poor urban planning. This paper analyzed the pattern and implications of urban sprawl using GIS and Remote sensing as an improved approach to analyze and explain sprawling beyond the traditional spatial or cartographic ma...
